Ok, so blog #2: Today's class was actually very informative for me. I think Prof Hummer hit it on the head when she said we all know these things but just don't know how to explain them: that is how I feel. I was glad to hear that I am not alone in never really learning grammar in depth in high school or middle school. That is something I genuinely am disappointed by, and I have been searching for a general grammar class to help me at least get up to speed. I think I understand why we do certain things in grammar, but it would be nice to know why and to be able to explain it using the actual title of the rule. So, today was a pleasant surprise, and something that hopefully we can see more of! I find it pretty pathetic that I know more grammar in French than English: that is not something to brag about. I love to edit and correct papers, but I don't really know specifics as to why some things are written certain ways, so that is definitely something that everyone should know how to do, regardless of if you are interesting in writing or what have you: grammar is pretty essential to every career. So basically, thanks Prof Hummer for a brief grammar lesson: it may be a bit dry, but it was very helpful! Always good to review those things you know, but may not remember why you do them.
