improvements

I think today's workshop is proof that we've all been getting a lot out of Heather Sellers's book. Compared to the first workshop, the stories have improved drastically already. I know in my own story, as well as in others I've been reading so far, we have done a lot of work with gaps, especially during flashbacks. Sellers advised us to jump around in our stories to make the reader more interested and it worked! It was fun to write gaps in my own story and definitely made it more fun to read other stories with gaps. These spaces allow our minds to work harder, making the reading more interactive. Cathy did an especially good job with jumping around in her flashbacks, making her story more powerful and her flashbacks more effective. We have also improved the amount of tension and energy in our stories. Thinking back to my first story, it lacked high energy, high tension, and big jumps. However, because we have spent time working on these techniques, I was consciously aware of each of these techniques in my second story. I tried very hard to have every sentence working as hard as it could to create tension, energy, and gaps.
